greengate Garden Centres is a family-run, locally based business offering Canadian-grown plants and products - because what thrives here should come from here.
The garden is no longer just beginning, but it is not quite in full late-summer stride either. July is the in-between month: part celebration, part maintenance, part weather negotiation.
After a strange spring and a very compressed June planting month, many Calgary gardeners are still catching up. Some gardens went in late. Some went in stages. Some were planted between rain, wind, work, and whatever the forecast was doing that particular hour. That is not failure. That is Calgary gardening with situational awareness.
To help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests, we kindly ask that pets remain on a leash and under supervision at all times. Please be mindful around plants, displays, and other shoppers during your visit.
We look forward to seeing you and your furry companions!
Not everyone has a big yard anymore.
Some people have a balcony. Some have a townhouse patio. Some have a front step, a narrow side yard, a condo courtyard, a community garden plot, or one heroic pot by the door doing its absolute best.
So whether you are gardening for the first time, gardening after downsizing, or trying to make something beautiful out of a tiny space with weird light and one suspiciously windy corner, this is your invitation.
A bag of 250 ladybugs can make a real difference in a garden that is starting to show aphid pressure, especially on roses, vegetables, perennials, and tender new growth.
For best results, release ladybugs when the garden is calm, cool, and slightly damp.
Before releasing them, lightly water the garden or the plants where you want them to settle. Ladybugs are thirsty after travel, and a damp garden gives them a reason to pause instead of immediately flying off to inspect the neighbour's yard.
and our greengate experts are here to help you grow them
You don't need a large garden plot to grow vegetables - for smaller yards, you can grow in raised beds.
Planter boxes and container gardening works great as well!
